We’re proud to support medical boards and their diplomates with our Continuous Learning solution. In 2021, ITS and the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) partnered to develop and launch the Longitudinal Knowledge Assessment (LKA®) platform using this solution. The LKA became available to physicians in January 2022 and we’re eager to share the platform’s progress.

ABIM is a physician-led nonprofit organization that certifies physicians practicing internal medicine and an array of subspecialities. Through board certification, internists and subspecialists demonstrate that they’ve met rigorous standards and have the clinical judgement, skills, and attitudes needed for superior patient care.

The LKA platform enables physicians to maintain those certifications in a modern and flexible manner. Developed with ITS’s fully customizable Continuous Learning solution, the LKA platform combines learning, assessment, and immediate feedback that physicians can use to guide their educational pursuits and immediately put what they’ve learned into practice. It delivers exam questions each quarter rather than all at once like in a traditional longform exam. The result is a maintenance of certification assessment option that’s flexible and conducive to physicians’ demanding lives.

Responses from ABIM diplomates have been supportive. They find convenience in taking exam questions more frequently. Said one Board-certified physician: “I just had my first day with the LKA. Eureka! ABIM found the right way for its diplomates to learn internal medicine and become knowledgeable physicians with ongoing day to day learning.
